Multiple Conditional Formatting and Checkboxes in Sheets

Last week I had a viewer of a video that I made in 2018 ask a question regarding conditional formatting and checkboxes. Now, when I created this video, it wasn't all that great. I still didn't want to talk on my tutorial videos, so I had music. Some loved it, others did not. I would like to think that I've evolved a bit since then, even if I did end up taking a year off as this was A YEAR like no other.  While that video has had several views, I did have viewers asking questions. Now those that know me, know that I'm in spreadsheets for one reason or another, every single workday. It's what I enjoy, and well, it's needed for my day-to-day work duties. Since others might be visual learners, I thought I'd do another quick tutorial for those that might want to learn how to do multiple conditional formatting. These can be applied in whichever scenario you think you would need to work for you. That's the great thing about spreadsheets, everyone uses them fo...

What is it about this time of year?

I'm not sure what it is about this time of the year that makes me think about doing tutorials. I know last year I went fast forward and even started working on podcasts, which unfortunately didn't get a lot of traction. I almost decided that this wasn't going to be worth it to start it up again. It took a lot of thought and a lot of angst on my end on what I should do. Then yesterday happened.  In a matter of hours, I had the pleasure of helping two different teachers with different walkthroughs on how to assist them with not only their data but how to switch things up for students in Slides if needed. It was all last minute, nothing was really planned out,  yet in a matter of two hours, I was able to light a spark within them as they learned something new.  This morning I then woke up to a new comment on a YouTube video that I did two years ago, that honestly wasn't that great compared to what I know now, but the comment was very touching. Some of them on that one...

S01 E06 - Part Two: Get your Gmail to do Some of the Work for You

Hello! This was not how I expected the second half of this podcast to go. I completed the Labels, Filters, and Contact Grouping in this second half of the Get your Gmail to Do Some of the Work for You and I realized that you all might want to actually see how it's done and not just listen to a tutorial. For those that enjoy learning audibly, I have that podcast linked below or you can find it on your favorite podcast platform. Just an example of how a little bit of set up, in the beginning, can save you some time in the long run.  Episode: Link to Anchor Channel  S01 E06 - Get your Gmail to do Some of the Work for You Part Two Here are the two video tutorials I stated that I would have available for those that wanted to see how it's done! The videos are currently Youtube links and will be embedded as soon as they go live.  Google Labels and Filters Google Contact Groups for Inbox and Calendar I could easily see this podcast being turned into a video podcast so not only to...

S01 E05 Get your Gmail to do Some of the Work For You - Part One

Hello, and welcome to episode five of the Office Tech EDU Podcast, bringing you technology tips, tricks, and tutorials in bite-size pieces today for you to use at your desk tomorrow. In today’s episode, we’re going to talk about how with a little bit of work on your part you can get your Gmail to do some of the work for you. Now hear me out. There’s work involved, and no, it won’t automate your email, but by doing a few things ahead of time you’ll become more organized and hopefully more efficient while working in your Gmail account. I apologize that this had to be broken up into two podcasts, but to keep it in bite-size pieces and to not bore you to death, it's been broken down. In this episode, I gave walkthroughs on how to create not only one but two signatures in your email, how to create a canned response in templates, and how to automate it, along with how to schedule an email to go out at a later date and time. Here's the link to this episode. Creating a signature: Sett...

S01 E04 Searching Smarter in Google

Hello, and welcome to episode four of the Office Tech EDU Podcast, bringing you technology tips, tricks, and tutorials in bite-size pieces today for you to use at your desk tomorrow. My name’s Beth Heyden and I thank you for joining me. In today’s episode, we’re going to talk about how to search smarter in Google. There’s way more to searching in Google than typing in a few keywords and hoping for the best, although that’s what many of us do on a regular basis. This usually ends up in you having to weed through them to see if that’s what you were hoping for. It can be overwhelming to know that you have several pages to search through to find the one item that you might actually want. Let’s get started.  When searching within the Google browser, you know what keywords you’re looking for, and what outcome you’d like to get, but how do you get the best results for your search.  “ “ Putting quotes around a word, or phrase will produce exact matches.  And/Or usi...

S01 E03 - Sharing and Collaborating in Google Applications

Welcome, and thank you for listening to the third episode of the Office Tech EDU podcast!  Hosted by me: Beth Heyden, CEOE and Certified Google Trainer If you haven't yet listened to the podcast but would like to, you can find it here and select S01E03.  In today's episode, I talked about how to properly share and collaborate within a Google application.  Share Settings:   When you click on the share button you can enter in individual names from your contacts or email addresses. Group them so that all those with Edit rights together then click on share. If you then wish to share with others who should only view it, repeat the same steps and change the option to view only. Do the same thing for comments.  Bonus: If you're part of a Google Enterprise (formerly Google for Work), Google for Education, or Google for Non-profit you can time out a collaborator by setting an expiration date. To do this, go back into the shared settings, click on the n...
